Waiting to Enter Yosemite, and Kitty Time

It’s the Saturday before Easter, and Tim and I are enjoying the day near the south entrance to Yosemite National Park.  You might wonder why we didn’t drive into the park today.  No, it wasn’t due to weather.  In fact, today is absolutely gorgeous.  The wind that we’ve dealt with for the last week has finally died down, and the temperature has reached 70°.

It’s because it is Easter weekend that we’re staying put.  The park is crowded, we were unable to get a campground reservation and we didn’t want to drive back and forth to a campground outside the park.  We decided that we would have a much better time by waiting until tomorrow to enter the park.  Most people will be leaving, and it is actually going to be even warmer.  Highs are only predicted to reach the mid-50s, but we’ll take that.

We were able to get last-minute campground reservations in Yosemite Valley for Sunday and Monday nights and dinner reservations at the Ahwahnee for Sunday night.  The Ahwahnee is the park’s landmark hotel, and dining there is an experience not to be missed.

I think Yosemite will be a wonderful place to spend Easter Sunday.  I’m not optimistic that we’ll have an internet signal during our stay, although I might be surprised.  So, if you don’t hear from me for a couple of days, please be patient.  Yosemite is one of my favorite parks, and I’m looking forward to returning there with Tim and writing about it.

In the meantime, we have been perfectly content to just hang around the campground today and do a few chores.  Kitty especially enjoyed spending much of the day outdoors, even though part of it in was in her kitty enclosure.  We always wondered what she would do if we ever let go of her leash, and we found out early this evening – she decided to take off!  Luckily we were right behind her and stopped her in her tracks by stepping on her leash.  She was not amused!  Fellow campers, however, got a good chuckle at her expense.
